Our Happily Ever After
Long time no See:)
I don't know how many times I've sat down to update but got sidetracked! SO SORRY to all of my many many loyal readers. (hopefully you sense my sarcasm!) I think my excuse is that I am on facebook so much and I feel like anyone reading this probably sees ALLLLLL my pics. So, I'm a little obsessed with posting pictures of the kids. I am That. Annoying. Mom. I swear I will not make Claire call you and say her ABC's though. Well, at least not this month. What about your ultra conservative blog you write Amanda...what about that?? Well, if I can find the dear sweet time to write more to you fine people, I will. I get really fired up over political banter on facebook when I shouldn't and I'm really trying to find a sweet balance and most of all GRACE. Anyway....on to the Pettit's!
We had an AMAZING summer! I think I can honestly say I truly fell in love with where I live. We took full advantage and had SO many fun visitors it was unreal. I got to be a tourist in my own city and it was a BLAST. I always take for granted how beautiful it is here...and it's so fun to see it through the eyes of a first timer. All the oooohs and aaaahs. It's great! My mom just left, after a 5 week visit and I'm trying to adjust to life alone with the 2 munchkins again. The kids are great. Sawyer is crawling EVERYWHERE and as of yesterday pulling up on everything. That was fast. He's ahead of Claire in this department...then again, I think he wants to just get up and jump around with her so bad he's advancing quicker. My dear sweet husband ran a marathon and finished with a great time...go ERIK! Love that guy. We are in full pumpkin patch mode right now. The kids are going to be a cowboy and cowgirl this year. I'm all about the themes. I even try to coordinate their clothes when we go out. Did I just say that out loud?? Oopsy. I've joined a really neat womens Bible study that I'm really loving. We have a busy fall ahead of us and wouldn't have it any other way.
Claire is the smartest kid in town. No joke. She has been counting to 10, knows all her colors. Sings songs and has a great memory. There really isn't anything she can't say to us if she's trying. It's insane. She is a LITTLE PERSON now! Amazing. She is precious. They both are more than I ever could have asked for (even though they don't sleep..that's another story). I just know that it won't last and I'll miss this stage when it's gone:) So anyway, if you want me to start keeping this thing up a little better, let me know and I'll upload pictures. Otherwise, for now you can visit me on Facebook! You'll definitely get your fill of Pettit wonderfullness there!
Our own personal Napa
I talk a LOT about the many things I can't stand about OR. I think it's time to write about some of the reasons why I absolutely love OR as well. Let's start with wine country. How fortunate we are that we can take a very short day trip to the heart of OR wine country where some of the country's most famous wines are made. So fun. Memorial Day weekend we went with our friends Sarah and Todd and two other friends (another Gamma Phi) Christy and her husband Joon. We toured 7 vineyards during the day...brick house, beaux freres, shea, winderlea, domaine drouhin, white rose duponte and argyle. A lot of fun...great times, fun foods to pair and some live music along the way. Can't wait to do it again! The rest of the weekend was spent having more fun. We went to our friends Trent and Wendy's for a little dinner and fun. They have had 4 kids in 4 years (and no, before you ask we are NOT on their schedule.lol) ALL GIRLS! Possibly the cutest girls ever too, all of them could be little models, seriously. They have some fun toys and Claire had a good time in her first "bouncy house" experience. We played in the sun a lot and then on Sunday had the in laws over for pulled pork sandwiches, sweet potato fries, my famous baked beans and homeade strawberry shortcake. I'll post more pics of our wine tasting fun day in the gallery later.
8 Weeks Old
Today Sawyer is 8 weeks old! He's such a great easy child..very different from his big sister so far. The sun is finally out in Oregon and we are really starting to have some outdoor fun with the kiddos! We took a quick trip to the OR coast this weekend with some girlfriends and their kids and had a GREAT time. (Pics are up in the album:) In other news, Sawyer had his first big sister assault. I had them both on the floor and we were playing. I turned my back to put something on the shelf behind me and I heard Claire say "EYE" as she gouged her finger deep into poor Sawyer's eye socket. We ended up at the doctor and sure enough she had sliced his cornea..it was pretty sad and our little fellow had to wear an eye patch and take antiobiotics. Thank the Lord it healed VERY fast (the eye is quite amazing!!)
Claire is getting smarter by the second. This age is so so fun. Right now she can point out and SAY the names of almost all her body parts. She says "up" when she wants up. She goes and sits on her big girl potty when we tell her too, she 's pretty smart. She can pray and also "Rock like Def Lepard" lol. If we tell her to do something...like "Go get (insert random household object here) " She will disappear and reappear with whatever we told her to get...words we had NO IDEA she even knew! It's quite a fun game :) She loves her baths and takes 3-4 a day sometimes. She has a ton of teeth and all her molars are in...well, until the next round starts. Ugh. She LOVES to dance and will start dancing even if someone starts quietly humming. She's QUITE a ham. She gets it from her momma pretty sure!
We are very excited to have some new friends in town as well. My grand big from the Gamma Phi house and her hilarious hubby moved to Portland from Dallas in November and we have REALLY enjoyed hanging out with them a lot. They are both so fun. While I was at the coast this weekend with my friends, Erik went clamming and crabbing with them. He had a blast and I'm really excited to go next time!
Baby Sawyer LIfe
Well, we have had our little man home for close to a month now. Time has FLOWN! My mom is still here which is a tremendous blessing. The saying "it takes a village" is taken quite literally in this house. Three adults to two babies and we still have no time for anything! lol. Sawyer is doing awesome! He has slept 12 hour nights pretty much since we brought him home. He is a champion eater too. So far, he and his big sister are completely different children in every way possible. We still can't get her to sleep through the night! We are blessed and I just love these 2 little kiddos so much. Erik is training for the Portland marathon with a friend of mine from OK and her hubby who just moved to Portland-how fun is that? Actual friends from home! She was actually my "grand big" in the g phi house and she is super fun.
In other news, we got 2 new cars this past month. Dare I say what I actually WANTED and pined away for, for the past several months? A minivan. That's right. I got it off my chest. Secret is out. I got a Toyota Sienna and shhhhh, I LOVE it. I think there is just something about becoming a mommy that makes you throw your ego out the window and just want to do what is right and comfy for your family. So, from a Benz to a minivan. Hmmmm, what's next? And speaking of family mobiles, Erik is selling the H2 because now he is the proud driver of an Audi wagon. First off, if you're not from Oregon I'm not sure you would understand the whole "wagon" craze up here. Wait, I don't understand it either so I'm not sure how I would go about explaining it. You never see them much in other states but up here it's kind of the "thing" to have. Very yuppie to drive a wagon for some reason and now we have 2 family friendly cars. Anyway, life is good! The weather is "starting" to get nice and that makes mama very happy. I'm getting SUPER excited about some visitors we have coming this summer too...SUPER excited:) I did post pics in the photo gallery, but I have about a gazillion more to add to it, so bear with me, we'll get her done this week.
*This picture is of us on Easter Sunday after church at Erik's aunt and uncle's get together. They do 2 really fun egg hunts, one for kids and one for adults with REAL prizes! I found an egg (I actually "unearthed" an egg-they really hide the adult ones) that contained dinner and a movie! Erik told me to go back out and find the egg that had the free babysitter prize in it. lol
We are excited to announce that Sawyer Thomas Pettit made his arrival on Monday, March 23 at 4:28pm. He weighed 8 pounds 1 ounce, 21.5 inches long. I was induced early that morning and I couldn't have asked for a better labor. I literally felt nothing and I loved it! I was able to relax and really enjoy the birth. We had comments from the nurse and doctor that it was a "beautiful, very pretty birth" lol. We had a heck of a time picking a name (it was down to 2) and we actually left the hospital without naming the poor kid. We're pretty set on Sawyer though. Thomas is my family's last name back in OK and so it's always had a special place in my heart :) He's a champion of an eater so far which is much different that his big sister. It'a a pleasant surprise. He has a head full of BRIGHT blonde hair and a little cleft in his chin. We can't wait for everyone to meet him! When I can get both kids to nap at the same time again, I'll add tons of pics in an album in the photo gallery! Until then, I have to remind myself I have two children under 2 now!
Deck the Halls!
A LOT has happened to the Pettit family since I last updated. We sold our home in Molalla and moved! It was quite a quick process and we are so lucky and so blessed to have sold it in such a tough market. The perfect couple came along at the right time and bam, it was sold! Whew. We had 2 weeks to close and be OUT. Thankfully and ironically, my mom flew into town the morning we accepted the offer and was able to help out watching the munchkin while I made countless trips back and forth from the old house to the new one.
Little Miss Claire Isabella also had her FIRST BIRTHDAY! We celebrated at home with mommy, daddy and nana and had lasagna. Claire had her own mini strawberry shortcake and dug right in! Afterward, she opened some presents that Erik got gotten her that evening. Dad's are funny shoppers I've decided. She got a fluffy pink light up princess phone and a rather scary little walking talking My Little Pony named "Pinky Pie". We had her birthday party that following weekend in the new house...I know, seriously, who throws mega parties after only living somewhere ONE WEEK?? ME! We were blessed with a lot of family, cousins, friends and people from our church who all helped celebrate. It was a lot of fun.
We went on a Christmas tree hunt this year up in the woods of Oregon on the mountain. For a $5 permit, you can choose ANY tree out there. How fun and woodsy is that? We picked out a HUGE Noble Fir, chopped it down, tied it to the top of the car and were on our way! It's absolutely huge in the house but it's great. I love a big tree and Claire loves looking at the lights and the ornaments. Right now we are completely snowed in. It's the "Arctic Blast 2008". Pretty cozy and fun and we have a beautiful snowy scene as a view since we're "out in the country" now. It's truly beautiful. We have so much to be thankful for this year, as always. With our home selling we have witnessed God's power and the answer to many many many prayers from so many for us.
Baby Pettit #2 is getting big. Some days I feel huge, other days, I don't. I didn't get that big with Claire though, so I know this is normal. Knock on wood. I also have 3 months left! We're still going back and forth between about 3 boy names...you're dying to know aren't you!? I'll definitely keep you posted when we make a decision!
Here is Claire at her party in her Birthday Party dress. It has a candle embroidered on the front and angel wings on the back. I'm a sucker for cutesy over the top baby clothes!
39 Weeks, 3 days...tick tick tick..
I made a little progress at last weeks appt but let's not get too excited here. The dr. said she didn't expect I'd make it to this weeks appt on Thursday but I have a feeling she is just wrong. I don't feel like this little boy ever wants to come out! Hopefully I'm wrong and hopefully he's not like 10 pounds or anything insane :) In other news, Claire is still the cutest girl on earth. She can now point at all the farm animals and say what they "say". She likes to pretend to feed her dolls in their little highchair and then rock them to sleep in their bed. She is getting SO BIG so fast and so dang smart! She can name a lot of the parts on your face too (eye, nose, ear, tongue!) I know, I know...a total Einstein. LOL. It's such a fun age! My mom has been here a few weeks awaiting the arrival of our little boy so I've had a ton of help...well, I sleep a lot and take hot baths while she changes diapers and feeds Claire. hehehehe. I know, I know...I am very blessed to have her. It's been pretty rainy lately. UGH. Spring, where are you? As much as I hate the winters here, I would really be very sad if we ever moved. The longer I'm here the more I do love it. I have made some of the bestest friends in the world. Speaking of best friends, my friend Kati (who has Mr. cutie pie Will) is a budding photographer (and pretty dang good if you ask me...let me know if you want to use her for something!) came over and took some maternity pics for us. Here is a sneak peak at one of them :)
38 Weeks and a Claire Updae
38 week update! Well, I wish there was an update, but as of my dr.'s appt. yesterday..NADA. He doesn't expect me to last until 40 weeks, but who knows? In my mind, I'm already a week late, since C was born at 37 weeks. I'm feeling HUGE and pretty uncomfy a lot of days. I do love love love being pregnant, but toward the end, well, the acid reflux is just about unbearable.
Little Miss Claire is starting to really grow up. We LOVE this age. She is such her own little person right now, it's so cute. She's going up and down stairs by herself. She loves baths and runs to the bath say "bat" "bat". She points at people's eyes and says "eye". When you ask where her tummy is, she pulls up her dress and starts laughing hysterically. She loves bananas and green beans (and of course cakes and cookies). She loves books and can say "book" and "cow". Our neighbors have horses and she loves watching them out the window. This girl is also a dancing machine. If ANY song comes on, heck even if you just start humming, she goes crazy dancing in circles shaking her head. We taught her how to kick and stomp her feet the other day so now she can add that to her grooves. We're still staying busy with our playgroup and having a blast with them. We're looking forward to warm weather again so we can start going back to parks and playing with the water features there. SO FUN! I love those girls too, some of the best friends ever! I'm super excited that my friend Susan and her new beau Bob are coming to visit us in June...so fun! Also my granparents, aunt and cousin are trying to plan an early summer trip here too. We love visitors. That's it for now! We're going to the childrens museum tonight so hopefully Claire will enjoy that!
Come on Spring!
Well, we're settled into the new house, pretty much. We are in bad need of some landscaping and fencing but we're hoping that comes this spring. Erik's job is going well so far and I'm loving staying at home! Erik was in a car accident..NOT his fault I might add, that totaled my car so I am carless for a bit until we find something for me. It's not so bad though, I have some really great girlfriends that come by and visit us during the day and bring lunch even! Yahoo! I think that as of this week I can say that I am ready to have this baby! My mom will be here later this week until the baby comes and then hopefully for a good while afterward to HELP OUT! My life is going to be nuts! We purchased our big double stroller last weekend and I think the little boy's nursery is done (I posted pics in the photo gallery) I am not a themey person at all. I usually stick to very basic Pottery Barn Kids looks, but for some reason this kid has a western nursery! It's cute and fitting since I'm the lone "okie" up here in the Pacific NW. It's been an unusually sunny and NICE winter so far, so I won't complain too much...although I won't lie, an all inclusive Mexico vacay sounds mighty nice right now. I need some guac and some margaritas in a bad way.Afterall, I've been preggo for 2 years in a row pretty much! Do they give awards for that? We went to Okla for a short visit a few weeks ago to see my family and had a fun time. We're hoping for a "babymoon" to Seattle next week while my mom, our live in babysitter, is here, so I'll post pics soon! Okay, time to cook this little family some dinner now :)
Happy New Years Eve!
I onlyhave about a gazillion things to do right now. We're throwing a family friendly New Years party at our house tonight and I'm doing most of the food...eeekk! Should be fun and quite a nice sized crowd, so that's exciting. I love hosting parties. I'm seriously half Martha Stewart, half the most unorganized person on earth. Make sense? As I sit here in the morning with a little free time to myself, which is rare....I can't help but be so thankful and reflect on some of the blessings of 2008. I've blogged before that we experienced some trials this year. Luckily, we kept our sight on God and having hope in Him alone. Things are looking bright and I am looking forward to seeing what this 2009 brings us!
A Few of Our Favorite Things of 2008
1. Experiencing Claire's first year of life together, how utterly amazing!
2. The health and safety of our friends, ourselves and our family this year.
3. Erik's new job, which he really loves. We are also thankful for the time he had off this year to be at home with us just playing and being a family.
4. The selling of our Molalla home at the perfect time.
5. Getting the opportunity to move into our new home which Erik built and spent an entire year working on.
6. Our relationship with God, being strengthened every day this year as we relied on Him.
7. My official resignation from Dyson, as this means that I am a stay at home mommy and wife.
8. The opportunity for me to fly to OK a handful of times to visit my friends and family there AND for my mom to come up here as well to spend a ton of time with us!
9. I'm so thankful for all of the wonderful friends I've made this year through our playgroup. I've found a fabulous group of girls which I love dearly..each and every one. It's rare to find a group of girls you really click with, especially as you get older!
10. Our church family. We go to a small, very close knit church. At times, this has bothered us. Sometimes we want the lights and the music and the big productions. We have come to realize that the truth is what is most important and we have a great pastor who is a true expositor of the Bible. We love our church family.
BOY!!! That's right, we found out we are on Team Blue this time around! The dr. said the ultrasound looked perfect and we are so thankful for that! We feel very blessed to be able to experience one of each and can't wait to meet HIM in person!
It's official, I resigned from Dyson this week to be a stay at home mom! "But Amanda, you really haven't REALLY worked for years" you're thinking! lol. I know, I know..I had an easy fun job. With Number 2 on the way, this is a decision Erik and I knew would be best. So, even though, I've been lucky enough to be on maternity leave for a year, I won't be going back in November. It feels a little strange to officially be unemployed, but it's a good feeling :) Here is a picture of Claire on her 10 month birthday. We let her Grandma babysit and while she was decorating cupcakes one of them "fell" on the floor and she looked down moments later to find Claire devouring it. Sure Judy, it dropped on the floor. We know how you guys spoil the grandchildren! lol
* I have started a blog page to the left. By popular demand, you can now peek inside my head a bit more :) Also, I added a page full of fun links to other sites and blogs I read! Send me yours and I'll add it if you'd like. SEE? I'm really trying to revamp this thing!
Click on this link. Worth watching.
The Pettit Family
Time for a much awaited update! My friend Imaya says I need to turn some of this into a blog, so I'm contemplating that soon. Claire is 8 months old now and is a crawling tornado! She cut her first 2 bottom teeth on the same day she crawled..big day for her! So, I play bodyguard to her all day long now. My mom has been here for 3 weeks so I've been...you guessed it..napping!! I love having a live in nanny..did I mention she also does all of our laundry, cooking and cleaning..I hit the jackpot! lol.
Erik has been working for Holland Residential for 3 weeks now and is really loving it. It's a really neat opportunity with a great company. I'll be going to OK with Miss Fancy Pants in Sept. for 10 days so any of you Okies reading this...let's meet up! The weather here has been fabulous this summer...it's wonderful. I'm soaking it up and trying not to think about the 10 months of doom and gloom ahead. We went to Los Angeles for the 4th of July and I really need to put up some new albums in the photo gallery...so I'm off!
The newest pic is of Claire on her 8 month birthday practicing her walking skills with daddy
Okay everyone, I have been absolutely horrible about updating this site. Send me a comment if you are on here, so it will encourage me to get this thing snazzy and up to par like some of my friends blogs! On to what's new.....well, if you haven't heard the latest news, it's that Claire is going to be a BIG SISTER in March! SUPRISE! (For you and us both!) We are very excited and of course, a little nervous about having 2 under 2, but that's the spice of life, right? We had an early "guess" of the sex of this baby at 12 weeks but we will keep you in suspense until our next ultrasound. Tee hee hee.
We just got back from a nice long trip to Okie land and had a great relaxing time. Claire got her pictures made by the fabulous Courtney Morehead in Ada, OK. I attended my 10 year class reunioun and it was SO GREAT to see old faces and friends! It's funny how much people change in 10 years and yet still remain the same. Does that make sense? It was a great time. Back home in Oregon..we're holding strong as the only Republicans here lol. Not really, but it sure does feel like that sometimes! Only in Oregon will you get "the bird" for having a McCain sticker on your car. Nasty Democrats. lol. We're still doing our play groups and the babies are finally interacting now with each other. It's usually just grabbing a toy or a pacifier out of the next ones mouth and putting it in their own, but we're making progress! Claire is still crawling. When I say crawling, it's everywhere...she crawled our entire staircase in 15 seconds. Yes, I timed her. I'll start uploading some albums from the past couple of months since I'm so far behind..but seriously, send me a comment so I know you actually read this site! Then, I promise....I'll get on the ball :)
Claire is a very lucky little girl. She had 3 costumes to pick from this year. An angel, and pink polka dot octopus and a pink Cheer Bear Care Bear! We went with the Care Bear. We had our mommy and me party on Tuesday, today we go with playgroup to our 2nd pumpkin patch, then more festivities tomorrow night...if it's not raining! We pretty much had to do the Care Bear because, well, she's our "Claire Bear!" Funny though, I'm not sure I ever had a Care Bear growing up. For some reason that was the one character that didn't interest me and that was definitely my generation. I'll post more pics of her party from Tuesday later...the babies all looked so cute!
